Medieval surgical treatises donated to Lane

Leonard D. Rosenman, M.D, has published eight (and has the 9th in press) English translations of medieval surgical treatises; they are the only English versions of works written between 1170 and 1325, works that represent the reintroduction of surgery into Europe before the epoch of the Great Plague. Dr Rosenman has provided copies of all the books to more than 35 medical school libraries (including Lane) and the NIH.

His first job in 1949, after his residency in Boston, was as an instructor in Emile Holman's Department of Surgery when Stanford Medical School was in San Francisco. His interests in medieval surgery began at that time.
