Announcing New Resources for Life Scientists from the Lane Library
The Lane Library has added two additional data sources to its LaneConnex metasearch tool. Metasearch is a search engine that collects hits from multiple sources and summarizes them according to broad topical areas, making it an excellent way for quickly understanding the breadth of knowledge on your topic.
Now, whenever you search with metasearch using the Bioresearch option, you will get results associated with funding sources and patent applications:
1. Funding Opportunities: If the Federal government has funded research associated with your query, it will probably show up here. Summaries of grant proposals funded by NIH, NSF, DOE and other funding agencies are returned. This is a great way to understand the breadth of research done on your topic, whether or not the results were published.
2. Patents: A universe of data exists only in patent databases, and LaneConnex metasearch makes it trivial to search the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database.
See example results for a search on "miRNA" (below), and please send your feedback to help us determine the relevance and usefulness of these resources.
