Please join Lane Medical Library for a reception welcoming our new exhibit:
"Not a Cough in a Carload": Images from the Tobacco Industry's Campaign to Hide the Hazards of Smoking

Date: Monday, February 12, 2007
Location: Lane Medical Library
Time: 5-7 P.M.

Early in the 20th century, when questions about the health effects of smoking became a topic of widespread discussion, tobacco companies undertook a multi-faceted campaign to allay the public's fears. Print ads featuring cigarette smoking physicians, popular actors, and athletes, as well as pseudo-science were orchestrated to reassure the public that these products were safe.

Lane Library is hosting an exhibition of Rob and Laurie Jackler's collection of these provocative images. We will have refreshments and a chance for all attendees to sign Lane's Centennial banners before they go into a time capsule for the next 100 years. See the article in the Stanford Report.
