Surviving! exhibit
Lane Medical Library is proud to host an original exhibition highlighting Surviving! magazine. Surviving! was a magazine created by and for cancer patients that was supported by the Stanford Department of Radiation Oncology. It ran from 1983 to 2003. It was an innovative publication in that it was non-commercial, supported by a hospital, and provided a forum for cancer patients to share their stories with one another. It represented a new phase in medical consumers playing an active role in their health care. The exhibit places the publication in the context of changes in cancer care from World War II to the present.
